WWE Star Addresses Fan Incident At Saturday Night’s Main Event

A WWE star has addressed an incident with a fan at the July 18 Saturday Night’s Main Event show in New York City.

In what was the only championship match on the Saturday Night’s Main Event card, Fatal Influence’s Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid defeated Paige & Brie Bella to become the brand new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

The win gave Fatal Influence their first taste of gold on the main roster, as they continue to build momentum on SmackDown following their April call-up from NXT, however, there was a slight sour note to their celebrations after the bell, when a young fan gave Henley a shove as herself, Reid and Jacy Jayne were walking back up the entrance runway following the match.

Clips of the incident have since been making the rounds on social media, and in response, Henley sent a clear message to fans attending WWE shows.

Taking to Twitter, Henley wrote:

Don’t touch the wrestlers. Period.

 

A Change In Approach Perhaps Required For Saturday Night’s Main Event After Fan Incidents

Sadly, it feels as if every other day there are new examples emerging of fans not respecting the space of wrestlers.

Whether it be out in public, or at shows themselves, some fans take things too far and forget that the talent they enjoy watching on a weekly basis on WWE TV are also human beings, and don’t deserve to be hounded for autographs and selfies every moment of their day, or in this case, shoved whilst attempting to celebrate a big win and play the role of a heel for fans’ entertainment.

While typical WWE shows are not immune to fans unsolicited fan interactions, Saturday Night’s Main Event perhaps invites more possibility for this given that there is a far tighter space given for the entrance runway, something done to give the shows a more old school feel.

Not to say there has been examples of fans getting too handsy at every one of these shows, but it does leave wrestlers perhaps feeling more vulnerable given how close they are to them on their way to the ring.

Immediately after Fatal Influence vs. Paige & Brie Bella, JD McDonagh was both flipped off and had something thrown at him at close range, by what appeared to potentially be the same fan as the Fallon Henley incident, as he made his way to the ring.

While this may just be an example of one young individual getting far too carried away, it does highlight that perhaps WWE should opt to go for their traditional, wider runway for Saturday Night’s Main Event shows moving forward, even if it means losing one aspect of them that makes them feel unique.
