A WWE star appeared via a video package during AAA’s event in Mexico on Saturday, May 3.
During the kick-off show for WrestleMania 41 Night One, WWE dropped the bombshell announcement that it is set to acquire Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA.
While the deal has been announced, press releases published by both companies revealed that it’s not expected to be finalized until the third quarter of 2025.
Despite that however, the two companies have been busy promoting the upcoming WWE x AAA Worlds Collide event, which takes place from Inglewood, CA’s KIA Forum on June 7.
During the opening of AAA’s event on Saturday, May 3, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio narrated a video package that hyped up a new era for the promotion.
In the video, posted by Luchablog (see below), Mysterio says:
“For nearly a century, Lucha Libre has redefined wrestling. And now the whole world is watching AAA and WWE, taking Lucha Libre higher, faster, better, farther. The future flies here.”
Konnan recently addressed the AAA’s future creative after WWE acquires them, with full comments found at this link here.
We will provide updates on WWE’s acquisition of AAA as more news becomes available.
