A WWE star was “arrested” during last night’s May 23 edition of NXT on the USA Network, the last episode before NXT Battleground.
Until last night, the Battleground match for the NXT Tag Team Championship hadn’t been made official, with two teams in the mix – one of those being the Creed Brothers, and the other being Tony D’Angelo and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo.
Well, for the latter of those two teams, there was a bit of an issue.
That issue is that D’Angelo was ‘taken in for questioning’, and actually ended up getting arrested on last night’s show.
This appeared to be the result D’Angelo’s antics throughout the past couple of years with his mobster persona, which has included him writing Troy ‘Two Dimes’ Donovan (AEW’s Cole Karter) off NXT TV by throwing him off a bridge into the ocean, and doing the same to Pretty Deadly, although Pretty Deadly survived.
When he was being questioned by the authorities, D’Angelo denied all involvement, but it wasn’t enough and he ended up getting arrested.
We don’t know how long for or if this will lead to an extended absence from TV for D’Angelo, but we’ll keep you updated.
The idea was that there was an “informant”, or as D’Angelo called it, a “rat”, within the D’Angelo family.
The only other member of the D’Angelo family that we’ve actually seen on screen is Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo, who, after finding out what had happened to D’Angelo, wanted to offer his help to the Creed Brothers to even the numbers against Gallus this weekend.
The card for NXT Battleground on Sunday, May 28 is as follows:
NXT Championship – Carmelo Hayes (c) vs. Bron Breakker
NXT Women’s Championship – Cora Jade or Lyra Valkyria vs. Roxanne Perez or Tiffany Stratton
Heritage Cup Championship – Noam Dar (c) vs. Dragon Lee
NXT Tag Team Championship – Mark Coffey & Wolfgang (c) vs. Brutus & Julius Creed
North American Championship – Wes Lee (c) vs. Joe Gacy vs. Tyler Bate
Last Man Standing – Dijak vs. Ilja Dragunov
