A WWE star has credited Chief Content Officer Triple H as a reason behind his return to the company in 2022.
Following an impressive two year spell in NXT beginning in 2019, Bronson Reed was released from his WWE contract in August 2021, going on to then make a splash in NJPW under the name Jonah.
Holding a clean win over Kazuchika Okada in the G1 Climax 32 tournament, Reed’s future seemed bright in Japan, however, the Aussie Destroyer would wind up back in WWE just over a year after his release in December 2022.
Speaking to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Reed discussed his run in NJPW and decision to return to WWE, attributing the decision largely to Triple H taking charge of WWE creative.
Reed said:
“It was very welcomed. I mean, at the same time, I was sort of hitting my stride with New Japan Pro Wrestling, and I have a deep love for Japanese style wrestling.
“When I was a teenager, I got into that, and because there were no Australian wrestlers in WWE, I thought that would be my career. I thought I’d be a Japanese wrestler and that was it.
“But then when WWE became a full-circle thing, when I got released, there was so much I hadn’t done. I hadn’t been on a Monday Night Raw. I hadn’t been on a SmackDown, pay-per-view, all these things.
“So when Hunter called me and we spoke about everything, that was definitely a deciding factor. But I have a good relationship with Triple H, and I definitely wanted to play on his team.”
Reed is currently embarking on his most high profile WWE run to date after taking out Seth Rollins with six Tsunamis on an episode of Raw in August.
The two men will clash one-on-one for the first time at tonight’s WWE Crown Jewel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – a match that will also be Reed’s first-ever singles WWE PLE bout.
