A WWE main roster star has defeated a TNA Wrestling star in the first match of a championship contenders tournament.
It was recently reported that WWE’s deal with X to air WWE Speed had expired, which left the status of the Speed Championships, currently held by El Grande Americano and Sol Ruca, up in the air.
However, at WWE Heatwave, it was announced that the Speed Championships would now officially be part of NXT, with a tournament taking place to determine who will challenge Sol Ruca for the gold at No Mercy.
The tournament featured SmackDown’s Candice LeRae, NXT’s Lainey Reid, AAA’s Faby Apache and TNA’s Xia Brookside, with the tournament kicking off tonight on NXT.
Candice LeRae made her return to the brand, facing off against Xia Brookside, who was making her debut for the brand having previously been a part of the NXT UK roster prior to the brand’s closure in 2022.
The second first round match will take place on next week’s NXT show, with Lainey Reid facing off against Faby Apache from AAA.
