WWE Star Didn’t Originally Want To Wrestle Drew McIntyre

A top WWE star has discussed his matches with Drew McIntyre, revealing that he originally had no interest in facing the Scotsman.

Randy Orton and Drew McIntyre’s feud occupied the WWE Championship scene for a large portion of 2020. Orton has recently revealed that he had little interest in stepping in the ring with McIntyre.

On Broken Skull Sessions, Orton admitted that over time, him and McIntyre grew closer. Towards the end of their rivalry, Orton was passionate about their matches, but it took months for him to become fully motivated.

Here is the full quote:

“Originally, I had no interest being in there with him. We got closer and closer and he grew on me. We had three or four pay-per-view matches and I slowly learned more about this guy. I watched (Austin’s interview with Drew) and I felt that. I’ve gotten to know him to the point where I know he has a good heart and I know he loves this business and this business has given everything to me and I know he feels the same way.

“Here we are, let’s do what we can to elevate each other and make what we love as great as we can. For me to be a threat to you, that helps me, but now you have a hole to dig out of and overcome. Now, he’s got me on my heels. We eventually got there, but it took a couple of months to get there. He’s good in my book.”

Orton first challenged McIntyre for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam 2020 last August. They feuded for months, with Orton even defeating McIntyre for the title at Hell in a Cell 2020. McIntyre would win the championship back on Raw.

Entering a feud with The Fiend shortly after dropping the title, Orton set The Fiend alight at TLC in December. With the supernatural star recently making his return at Fastlane, Orton vs The Fiend set for WrestleMania 37.

Outside of the ring, Orton has been continuing his online feud with Soulja Boy. Orton has responded to the rapper’s recent tweets, which you can read about here.
