WWE Star Recalls John Cena Waiting Backstage For Him After First World Title Win

A WWE star has recalled John Cena waiting backstage for him after his first promo as World Heavyweight Champion.

With the 17-time world champion wrapping up his in-ring career this weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, WWE’s YouTube channel asked several members of the locker room what the best advice they ever received from John Cena was.

In the video, Damian Priest, recounted a personal story of Cena waiting for him at the curtain after his first appearance as World Heavyweight Champion on the Raw after WrestleMania 40.

Sharing details of what Cena told him, Priest said:

“The Raw after WrestleMania when I won the World Heavyweight Championship, and it was my first time out there with the title, as soon as I came through the curtain he was waiting for me.

“He asked me how I felt and he also said, ‘Listen, you can have a plan, you can enjoy what the crowd is doing, but it doesn’t mean you have to stick to it.’ ‘Do what’s right and know your purpose, know your role and then go with that.’

“Because that’s always the most important thing is the role for the show, and when you get rid of that you get rid of your ego and you’re able to humble yourself and do a good job the right way.”
