After being used primarily as cannon-fodder in WWE in recent months, Mustafa Ali has been on his best run in years as of late, scoring a major upset victory in the recent Intercontinental Championship number one contenders battle royal on this week’s Monday Night Raw (May 15)
The major win gives him a date with Gunther at Night of Champions on May 27, and while not many expect Ali to dethrone the ‘Ring General’ his recent positive mindset has him relishing the opportunity.
Speaking on WWE’s The Bump, Ali reflected on the massive victory, however would make sure to mention the vast amounts of pyro he received following his victory on Raw after it was left out of The Bump’s video package before his introduction.
“I’m a positive guy. I don’t want to bring up something negative but guys you showed this amazing package, where was the pyro?
“That was the best part! Not only am I going to Night of Champions not only am I the number one contender I got that Cody Rhodes Pyro baby! And you didn’t clip that? Give the people what they want. They want more pyro.”
Cody Rhodes’ pyro heavy entrance has been a staple of his WWE run since returning to the company at WrestleMania 38, with only a handful of others getting a similar treatment.
When discussing his opponent Gunther and fellow Imperium members Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci, Ali would fittingly with his character provide positive words for each of the three men, saying:
“You know the bald brother is jacked, Ludwig looks like a model, a really, really handsome young man.
“And then Gunther, he has a face that a mother could love, Those are all positive things about all three members.
“Yeah, that’s the only thing I can come up with. I was being sincere. I would never insult anyone, that’s not me. That’s not me, I’m not that guy.”
While Ali has a massive opportunity in store at Night of Champions, Cody Rhodes will be once again stepping into the ring with ‘The Beast’ Brock Lesnar in a rematch from Backlash.
