WWE Star Reflects On Recent Character Change WWE

A WWE star has reflected on his recent character change.

LA Knight signed with WWE in 2021 before starting on the NXT brand as a heel. He quickly became a fan favorite and rising star for the brand.

In May 2022, Knight was given a new character upon getting called up to the SmackDown brand by Vince McMahon where he formed the Maximum Male Models group.

Knight debuted under a new ring name of Max Dupri and became the manager for Mace and Mansoor. Once Triple H took over the main roster creative, he quickly made the change to revert Dupri back to his LA Knight moniker.

In a new interview with Yahoo Entertainment, the former NXT star discussed the character change. Knight explained:

“There was an NXT built-in audience that knew who LA Knight was. So now here comes this other character being introduced and so for those people, it was like, ‘Wait, what is this?’”

“But when you look at the numbers of a SmackDown audience, for a large swath of those people, they are seeing me for the first time.”

The SmackDown star continued on to note that he wanted to find something that fit for him, saying:

“So I could’ve been Joe Shmoe for all it matters. In a strange sense, that would have actually worked just because three quarters of that audience is seeing me for the first time regardless of who I am.”

“At the same time though, I think there is a matter of the shoe fitting and not. I will make any [character] work, but when it comes down to it, there was one that was way more ‘me’ than the other one.”

LA Knight spent one full year on the NXT brand from 2021 to 2022 before getting called up to the WWE main roster.

Knight is currently feuding with Bray Wyatt on the SmackDown brand.
