A WWE star set to compete in the Last Time is Now tournament says they “would probably retire” with John Cena if they earned the right to face him in his final match.
After last week’s Raw and SmackDown saw Rusev, Sheamus, Jey Uso and LA Knight book their spots in the next round of the Last Time is Now tournament, WWE Raw sees four more stars vie for the chance to compete against John Cena in his last match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.
The youngest prospect taking part in the tournament, WWE NXT’s Je’Von Evans will step into the ring with two-time former World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER, who is returning to the ring after three months out injured.
Despite the tall mountainous task ahead of him, Evans is relishing the chance to earn a shot at one of his childhood favorites, describing the opportunity as “insane” in an interview with Yahoo! Sports:
“I’ve always been a fan of Cena, especially me being younger. He always played to the younger fans.
“I’m so blessed to be in this position and have this opportunity. There’s a picture of my first WWE event — I’m wearing John Cena’s headband and wrist joints. This is insane.”
“I know that the process to get into [Cena’s final match] is going to be trouble, for sure, It’s going to be mountains, it’s going to be speed bumps, but I’m willing to get there. Whatever I need to do, whatever I’ve got to do, whatever helps me get to that match, to have that match with Cena, I’m ready to take all that on.”
While he’d have to get through four matches to make it happen, Evans said if he actually faced Cena in his last match then he’d “probably retire” right alongside him:
“Bro, honestly, if that happened, I would probably retire with him, what can I do, man? I had Cena’s last match. You know what, Cena? You have my last match, too.”
Along with Evans vs. GUNTHER, the other Last Time is Now match featured on tomorrow night’s Raw is Solo Sikoa against a mystery opponent.
Cena himself will also be in action on the show, and as confirmed by WWE Raw General Manager Adam Pearce, the 17-time world champion will open the show at Madison Square Garden.
