A WWE star has reacted to a move being performed on a show last night that no longer appears to be banned by the company.
During the opening match on last night’s NXT, Angel Garza and Humberto Carrillo challenged Tony D’Angelo and Channing ‘Stacks’ Lorenzo for the NXT Tag Team Championship.
During the course of the match, Garza hit Stacks with a Tiger Driver 98, or as Raw’s Cedric Alexander called it, the ‘Money Maker’.
It’s essentially a variant of a piledriver – a move known to be banned by WWE for years – and is the same move that Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega caused controversy with at Forbidden Door a few months ago.
Clearly Alexander took note about the prospect of potentially being allowed to perform the move himself, as he tweeted:
We can do “The Money Maker” now 🤯
Of course there are a couple of situations where the move might not be banned – Garza may have done it without realizing it was banned, or, he might have even done it knowing it was banned.
But if we assume that’s not the case, especially the fact it was done on NXT and with a ‘developmental’ talent like Stacks, suggests there is some leniency towards it nowadays.
Ultimately, Stacks and D’Angelo ended up retaining their championship in last night’s match.
Here’s Alexander’s tweet and a clip of the move:
