WWE Star ‘Really Close’ To In-Ring Retirement WWE

A legendary WWE star has admitted that they are “really close” to calling time on their illustrious in-ring career.

Despite being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2023, Rey Mysterio is still going strong as a member of the active WWE roster, competing regularly on television up until suffering a torn groin and busted eardrum on the SmackDown before WrestleMania 41 on April 18.

While Mysterio has shown no sign of slowing down between the ropes, it appears that his in-ring career is approaching its conclusion, according to comments from the multi-time former world champion on La Platica.

Mysterio said:

“Oh, it’s definitely really close [retirement]. It’s really close, but at the same time, I’m so motivated. A lot of people ask me, ‘What keeps you going?’ I think that once my son started to wrestle, that kind of pushed me to continue, ’cause I was really getting very close to calling it quits, but that just kind of gave me that second wind, and it pushed me to keep going.

“To be honest, I know I’m going to still enjoy it when I retire, but I’m going to have to tap out. I still love what I do and I always have.”

Elsewhere in his interview Mysterio addressed being inducted into the Hall of Fame whilst still actively competing, something he referred to as an “honor”:

“The fact that I was inducted into the Hall of Fame before I even tapped out – I was like, I don’t want to, I’m not ready to retire.

“[WWE said] ‘Like no, we’re presenting this to you.’ So truly honored to have been considered, you know, one of the Hall of Famers.”

Mysterio recently revealed that he’s targeting a return from injury in August – click here for full details.
