A WWE star was recently released while still being injured.
On August 18, WWE announced the launch of the NXT Europe brand and the hiatus of the NXT UK brand.
With the relaunch set to start, the company released a number of NXT UK stars. One of those released stars was still injured when they were let go by WWE.
Fightful Select (subscription required) reports that former NXT UK Tag Team Champion Flash Morgan Webster was actually still injured at the time of his release.
The report notes that Webster signed a NXT UK deal in 2018, but then upgraded to an NXT deal in 2019 that ran for three years. The contract expired in 2022 and Webster was working on a short extension through the summer.
However, he later re-signed with WWE NXT earlier this year after passing on two deals with pay increases.
Fightful was told that Flash Morgan Webster signed in order to make sure he was taken care of during the injury process, but that doesn’t seem to completely be the case.
Webster suffered an injury that has sidelined him since the October 2021 NXT UK tapings. He had been cleared to compete again by his surgeon prior to his WWE release, but his physio had not, and Webster was nowhere near being able to return to in-ring action.
A previous report had indicated that Flash Morgan Webster had agreed to re-sign an extension with the company prior to his release.
We will have further updates on Webster’s status and the rest of the NXT UK stars when they become available.
