He tweeted:
Thank you for the last 8 1/2 years!
Being a professional wrestler has been a dream of mine since I could form memories and I will continue to do so till the good Lord says otherwise.
#SeeYouIn90
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer reports that Alexander was indeed released by WWE. No further details on the reason for the release are known as of this writing.
The “#SeeYouIn90” in Alexander’s tweet implies a 90-day non-compete clause, after which he’ll be a free agent.
Alexander’s WWE run began with the Cruiserweight Classic in 2016, which saw him become a fan favorite among fans who watched the tournament.
The swell of support for Alexander led to WWE signing him and he became a top name in the cruiserweight division and on 205 Live, resulting in a run with the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.
In 2019, he was moved to the Raw roster, and in 2020, he joined MVP, Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin in the famed Hurt Business faction – the other three members of which are now a trio in AEW as the Hurt Syndicate.
That run saw him become a Raw Tag Team Champion alongside Benjamin.
After the Hurt Business split, Alexander eventually found himself another tag team partner in Ashante ‘Thee’ Adonis on SmackDown in early 2024, although the partnership ended up being short-lived.
Alexander and Adonis were moved to NXT as a team, but quickly went their separate ways with Alexander as a babyface and Adonis as a heel.
Alexander finished off his run on TV in what was essentially a mentorship role for Je’Von Evans.
His last match was a loss to Ethan Page on January 28, 2025.
