WWE Star Released While Injured WWE

A released WWE star has revealed he was dealing with an injury at the time he was let go from the company this weekend.

In total, there were 16 releases and one contract not being renewed (Shotzi), including talents from both the main roster and NXT.

One of the NXT talents released was former Chase U member Riley Osborne.

Osborne had been off NXT TV since the Chase U break-up in November, and had most recently re-emerged on the new WWE Evolve show.

With those Evolve matches being taped in advance, he actually suffered an injury and underwent surgery a couple of months ago, and still wasn’t medically cleared to return at the time of his release.

On social media today in his first comments since his release, Osborne (Josh Terry) posted an apparent sarcastic thumb-up selfie and wrote:

“Can’t wait to get medically cleared at work… oh”

He also posted a follow-up, writing:

“March 7th I had surgery, have been out of action since… pre recordings are a magical thing”

This is the second notable time WWE has released an injured talent this year – something the company generally avoided in the past – as Karl Anderson was still out recovering when he was released in February.

In another update on Osborne, Dave Meltzer said on Wrestling Observer Radio:

“His situation was one of those where it had to do with… non-wrestling things. There was just – not political, that’s not the right word – there were just certain things that happened with him, and it kind of led to them taking him off television.

“But talent-wise he’s there. He’s good. He’s someone that AEW should at least take a look at, take a chance at. He never really got to show it there (in WWE). I was always impressed with him, and when I was asking people there, it was like, ‘Oh yeah, he’s really good’. He was not cut over talent.”

We continue to send all the released talent our best wishes for whatever they go on to do next.
