A WWE star has been removed from plans for tonight’s episode of SmackDown, taking place in San Jose, California.
Among the matches advertised for tonight’s show has been Drew McIntyre vs Jacob Fatu.
This match was designed to decide the next challenger for Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes.
However, it will no longer be taking place as planned, with a big replacement match now set instead.
As reported by PWInsider, Jacob Fatu is no longer set to compete in the planned match against McIntyre tonight.
Instead, WWE is planning to run Cody Rhodes vs Drew McIntyre as the SmackDown main event in a rematch from Wrestlepalooza.
Wrestlepalooza last month saw Rhodes retain the Undisputed WWE Title against McIntyre in the main event of the first PLE to air on ESPN.
According to PWInsider, this change is a decision that was only made “minutes ago” as of their report being published.
McIntyre had posted on social media a few times over the past couple of days, emphasizing that the match would be happening after rumors of an injury to Fatu emerged online.
PWInsider’s report noted that Fatu is present at the show tonight.
