A WWE star has made his return to TV and is already set for a match at Saturday Night’s Main Event next week.
The last edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, which took place on May 24, saw Damian Priest defeat Drew McIntyre in a steel cage match.
After the match, McIntyre was off TV until he returned on tonight’s July 4 episode of WWE SmackDown (taped June 30).
The opening segment of SmackDown saw Cody Rhodes celebrate his King of the Ring win before he was interrupted by the man he beat in the tournament final, Randy Orton.
Orton said he respected Cody for not hesitating to do whatever it took to get the win, as Rhodes utilized an exposed turnbuckle in their match before pinning Orton.
However, they were both interrupted by Drew McIntyre, who, after briefly insulting Orton, pretty much turned his back on Orton and spoke solely to Rhodes.
McIntyre said that he hopes Rhodes wins the WWE Championship from John Cena at SummerSlam, so that McIntyre can then beat Rhodes for it in a big match afterwards, given the many similarities between their careers over the past 20 years.
McIntyre said he wouldn’t hesitate to be aggressive against Rhodes, unlike Orton was at Night of Champions, which led to Orton RKO’ing McIntyre in front of Rhodes.
Backstage a few minutes later, McIntyre requested a match against Orton, and while Nick Aldis said Orton had gone home for the night, he’d make the match official for Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 instead, which McIntyre agreed to.
Already announced for SNME are GUNTHER vs Goldberg, and LA Knight vs Seth Rollins.
