When Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson made their returns to WWE last October, it came at an interesting time in the career of the Good Brothers.
Anderson returned to WWE whilst still being the NEVER Openweight Champion in New Japan Pro Wrestling, leading to him completing several dates with the company before starting with WWE full-time.
Anderson’s last match came at Wrestle Kingdom 17, when he dropped the title to Tama Tonga.
Shortly after the event, there were reports that pitches were made for AJ Styles to appear on the show, accompanying Anderson for the match.
Speaking on their Talk ‘n Shop podcast, Anderson and Gallows recalled a pitch made prior to their return, where AJ would have made an appearance in NJPW to aid Anderson in his match with Hiroshi Tanahashi, before showing up together on Raw the following night.
They explained:
Anderson: This will be good clickbait as well. We were doing a FaceTime with — it was our boss at the time, Triple H, Gallows, Anderson, A.J. Styles and we were figuring out what we were gonna do. This would have probably been in September and maybe August? I don’t know but end of August, whatever it was. But we’d almost basically decided on A.J. Styles coming over and helping me win that match versus (Hiroshi) Tanahashi (at NJPW Burning Spirit) and then, the very next night would’ve been Monday Raw.
Gallows: So we had to travel and get to Raw which would’ve been…
Anderson: That would have got us to Edmonton for a re-debut.
Gallows: But we would’ve not made it.
Anderson: We wouldn’t have made it, yes.
Gallows: Logistically, that would’ve been awesome.
Anderson: Well that is what almost happened.
Gallows and Anderson were a part of the Tag Team Gauntlet match on this week’s episode of SmackDown.
The match was won by Pretty Deadly, who are set to challenge Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship on SmackDown in London in two weeks.
Anderson and Gallows also revealed scrapped original plans for their return on the podcast, which you can see here.
