A WWE star is seemingly set to undergo a name change at some point in the future, but that change is being held off for now with good reason.
Dominik Mysterio makes his WWE in-ring debut this coming Sunday at SummerSlam in a street fight against Seth Rollins, but he might not be the unmasked Dominik Mysterio for long after that.
Speaking with ESPN, Dominik discussed continuing on the legacy of his father Rey Mysterio, which at some point will likely involve a name change and of course wearing a mask.
It is expected that Dominik will become Prince Mysterio and wear a mask down the road when the time is right, which is something ESPN noted in the report and has been reported previously too. In fact, the Prince Mysterio gear and mask is already designed.
On Dominik wearing a mask to continue his legacy, Rey said:
“We actually talked about it. He definitely has to continue with the Mysterio dynasty. It’s in his genes. I think we’re going to incorporate that eventually and create a good story so the fans can understand the rich history behind lucha libre and the masks.”
“I’ve always wanted to wear a mask mainly because of tradition. It’s important to keep that tradition going. Now with my face being out there, I think it would just have to be introduced a little bit differently so people understand. I definitely want to wear one, but it has to be introduced properly.”
