WWE Star Was ‘Super Surprised’ To Wrestle John Cena During Farewell Tour WWE

WWE star Finn Balor has admitted that he “didn’t expect” to wrestle John Cena again before he got the chance to do so on the November 17 episode of Raw.

After a glittering 23 year in-ring career, John Cena made his final appearance on Monday Night Raw on November 17 at the “World’s Most Famous Arena” Madison Square Garden.

With the match coming one week after John Cena defeated Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship, Cena saw his final Raw address cut short by “Dirty Dom” before being attacked three-on-one by Dom, JD McDonagh and Finn Balor.

After Sheamus and Rey Mysterio made the save, he would then team with them in a six-man tag team match against The Judgment Day – the 17-time world champion’s final match on WWE’s flagship show.

Speaking with The Sun, Finn Balor discussed his surprise at getting the opportunity to face off with Cena again towards the end of his farewell tour:

“I was super surprised to be involved in his last match at MSG, which was a huge honour. And a lot of fun – especially three Irish boys in there in New York City. So that was a lot of fun.

“It had been brought up to my attention a couple days before it might be a possibility, but in WWE you never get attached to any idea until I’ve got my gear on and the music is playing [laughs].

“The closer it got to the day I thought ‘wow, maybe this is going to stick.’ It was a great night. I didn’t expect to be in a ring with John again.

“Being in there for such an important moment for him at a historic venue for us – it was a real career memory for me.”

Culminating his farewell tour and his WWE career, John Cena will take on GUNTHER in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Washington D.C.
