WWE Star Told Kofi Kingston The New Day Wouldn’t Work

The New Day has become one of the most successful factions in WWE history. However, there was at least one man who didn’t believe in the idea of the group. That one man was the Big Show who told Kofi Kingston that he was wasting his time with the group.

Since the New Day has told the story of Big Show’s comments, now was his chance to tell the story. On a recent edition of the Feel The Power podcast, Big Show told his story. Here is the quote, courtesy of Fightful:

“I have to eat my own words, but it’s okay, because of who is involved, I will gladly eat my own words because I’ve never been happier to be so wrong in my life. I’ve seen Kofi come in from FCW and I saw him working into the championship role. Then, there are these two guys I don’t know. One looks like he just drove over and ate a cow and this other guy is running around with a trombone acting like he’s lost his mind. I’m thinking 3 Man Band, no one is going to come out well on this. This is just what I saw backstage. I pull my friend Kofi discreetly to the side.

We all know how I am with business. When it’s business, you have to be direct. I told Kofi, ‘You’re on your way to being a champion and getting that title, you don’t want to run around with these two [bleep]. I get it, you want to do something and create because you’re in a lull, but these two [bleep] aren’t going to get you over.’ He looks at me and says, ‘I appreciate that, but there is something special here, give it a look.’ I said, ‘Okay, I will, I’ll reserve judgment.’ I thought it was a death sentence for my friend Kofi. As soon as ya’ll came through the curtain, what did I say? I apologized and said, ‘Forget everything I just said. I’m wrong. What you have is magic, don’t change.'”

Needless to say, Big Show was wrong. He and Kofi Kingston have had many matches together and Big Show likely had Kofi’s best intentions at heart but he missed the boat on this one.
