There was an interesting opening segment on WWE SmackDown tonight featuring one faction seeing a member turn heel and leave the group.
With Rey Mysterio and the LWO opening the show, Rey Mysterio cut an in-ring promo noting that he blamed Logan Paul’s cheating for losing the United States Title to Paul at Crown Jewel 2023.
Saying that without the brass knuckles interference he could have never won, he and the LWO were then joined by Carlito.
Carlito came to the ring with an alternate take, stating his belief that Santos Escobar cost Rey Mysterio the title.
Blaming Santos Escobar for having left the brass knuckles on the ring for Paul to use, the dissension continued as the other members got in between the pair.
In the end, the segment led up to the first match of the night which saw Carlito return to WWE singles in-ring action for the first time in 13 years.
However after the match, which Lashley won, a back and forth exchange between Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar nearly came to blows.
With Rey Mysterio shoving Escobar, he turned his back after telling Escobar “we are one family,” and tended to Carlito.
Escobar then attacked Rey and a melee ensued where Mysterio slapped Santos Escobar before changing his mind and apologizing.
Approaching Santos to tell him he was sorry, instead Escobar rushed Mysterio and attacked him, including trying to injure Mysterio’s leg with the steel steps.
Wiht Escobar telling Rey that he made him do this, Zelina Vega also ran out to the emotional scene as the crowd showed their contempt for Escobar who left alone.
In an interview soon after, he said Mysterio “had it coming”.
