A WWE star has sent a message to a fellow member of the roster who stole his gimmick while he was out with an injury.
Last year, Chad Gable adopted the El Grande Americano character, pretending to be a luchador following a losing streak against masked Mexican wrestlers.
However, Gable suffered an injury in June that ruled him out of action.
In his absence, Ludwig Kaiser took over the El Grande Americano gimmick, including starting his own group known as Los Americanos, with Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate who became known as Rayo and Bravo.
The Kaiser version of Americano also took off in popularity in Mexico and became one of the most popular babyfaces in AAA despite being a heel on US-based WWE TV.
Gable returned in the Royal Rumble a couple of weeks ago as the original El Grande Americano, confronting the Kaiser version of Americano.
Their rivalry has spanned across Raw, where Kaiser is the heel and Gable is the babyface – and in AAA, where Gable is the heel and Kaiser is the babyface.
On tonight’s episode of weekly AAA TV which airs on FOX in Latin America and the WWE YouTube channel worldwide, the original Americano sent a message.
He said:
“My name is El Grande Americano. A victim of identity theft.
“For the last six months, I’ve watched some guy running around impersonating a Mexican luchador, singing songs in Spanish, going as far as to date a Mexican woman only to try and convince all of you of being as authentic as me.
“This man doesn’t know the history of lucha libre. He’s a fraud! He’s an imposter!
“I want you all to know, with my victory in the Rey de Reyes tournament, I will go on to win the sword, represent lucha libre, and become the new AAA Mega Champion.
“Viva Mexico! Viva lucha libre! And viva El Grande Americano!”

On last week’s AAA, the original Americano locked the Kaiser Americano backstage and replaced him in his Rey de Reyes qualifying match, which he then went on to win.
On Raw this past Monday, the original Americano and Je’Von Evans defeated Rayo and Bravo.
