A WWE star came out victorious in what she described as a “dream match” in another company today.
In the main event of Marigold’s Grand Destiny event, WWE’s IYO SKY took on long-time rival Mayu Iwatani in their first singles match encounter since a Cinderella Tournament semi-final match for STARDOM back in April 2018.
At the press conference ahead of the bout Iwatani appeared visibly emotional as she stood across from SKY, who has since gone on to achieve great success as a two-time world champion in WWE since leaving Japan for the United States.
SKY also shared a heartfelt message for Mayu before their in-ring reunion, describing their “dream match” as “nostalgic, warm, painful, agonizing, heartbreaking and comforting”.
The respect the two share for each other was displayed from the start of their almost 30 minute encounter at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan, as SKY and Iwatani shared a handshake before the bell.
After throwing their best offense at each other, as well as a few surprises such as IYO hitting a Tombstone Piledriver, it was the WWE star who picked up the win via an Over The Moonsault.
As can be seen below, SKY and Iwatani shared an emotional embrace after the bell, before the night’s action came to a close.
The win is IYO’s second for Marigold since the promotion began in April 2024, having previously defeated Mayu Hayashisita at the promotion’s Summer Destiny event in July 2024.
