A new champion in WWE has reacted to their win on tonight’s SmackDown to affirm he did ‘whatever it takes’ to win.
On tonight’s SmackDown, there was a WWE Tag Team Championship match featuring DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa) challenging the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin).
While in the lead-up to the match and throughout there seemed to be strife between Gargano and Ciampa, in the end it was revealed to be a ruse all along.
With Ciampa taking an opportunity to distract the referee, Gargano would deliver a low blow on Chris Sabin.
Gargano and Ciampa then made it clear they were truly on the same page all along as Ciampa tagged in and got the pin.
Taking to Twitter after the victory to celebrate, Gargano posted a selfie with Ciampa and the belts, and wrote:
We told you.. Whatever it takes.
2x WWE Tag Team Champions.
✌️ #DIY
They would meet up later in a backstage segment with Candice LeRae, another established heel character – and Gargano’s real life wife – further cementing their heel turn.
DIY were inserted into the tag team title match after the originally announced opponents for the MCMG, The Street Profits, were victims of a mysterious backstage attack.
