WWE Still Planning To Use Released Stars On TV

It was announced last Wednesday that 20 WWE main roster stars and a handful of NXT stars had been released by the company.

There has already been reports that many backstage have called for Sarah Logan to be rehired after her release was met with a very negative reaction, and it is thought she may well sign a new contract soon.

It also appears that while the stars have been released, they may still appear on WWE TV in the coming months, as they are still being paid by the company and can still work as independent contractors.

Each released star has a 90-day non-compete clause in his/her contract, so the only chance they’ll have to wrestle is if WWE decides they are needed before the 90 days are up.

Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said:

“So, the deal is some of this talent and Drake Maverick is another one. Since they’re being paid for 90 days some of them will continue to be booked.”

This is not something WWE has done before, but we know that Drake Maverick at the very least will be appearing on NXT in the Cruiserweight Championship tournament for at least a few weeks.
