Planned Opening Match & Main Event For WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night Two Revealed

The currently planned opening match and main event for night two of WWE SummerSlam, taking place tonight, Sunday, August 2, have been revealed.

Much like night one last night, night two has six matches announced so will likely be going around three to three-and-a-half hours.

Coming into the weekend, with WWE confirming that Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship would be on night two, that was the clear main event since CM Punk vs Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar vs Oba Femi were both on night one.

PWInsider Elite reports that backstage plans as things stand just a few hours out from the start of the event confirm that Reigns vs Rollins is the planned main event tonight.

Also, the outlet reports that the currrently planned opening match of night two is the Undisputed WWE Championship #1 contender’s match between Sami Zayn and Finn Balor.

The winner of Zayn vs Balor will go on to challenge CM Punk for the WWE Title at a future date after Punk retained against Cody Rhodes on night one.

That result came after Randy Orton made his return after being out since WrestleMania, RKO’ing Rhodes and allowing Punk to capitalize, which means Rhodes vs Orton looks to be happening at a big show coming up as well.

We’ll keep you posted if and when the full planned match order for night two of SummerSlam emerges and/or whether WWE’s plans change before the event gets underway, which is always a possibility.

The other matches tonight are the US Title match between Trick Williams and Baron Corbin, Danhausen vs Dominik Mysterio in the Human Monies on a Pole match, the five-woman ladder match to determine the Interim WWE Women’s Champion, and Penta vs Chad Gable for the Intercontinental Title.

Did WWE Make The Right Choice For SummerSlam Main Event?

Coming into WWE SummerSlam 2026 weekend, there were really three potential main event headline matches – CM Punk vs Cody Rhodes, Brock Lesnar vs Oba Femi, and Roman Reigns vs Seth Rollins.

Ultimately, the night two main event is always the ‘real’ main event, and WWE chose to go with Reigns vs Rollins in that spot, with Lesnar vs Femi as the night one main event and Punk vs Rhodes taking place before that one.

Given how things played out – the fact there was no title change in Punk vs Rhodes and that Femi got his crowning moment after defeating Lesnar – it’s fair to say those were the right way around on night one.

However, the big question is whether Reigns vs Rollins will usurp that one night two.

The build didn’t exactly deliver in that department, so we’ll have to see if the match itself and whatever headlines come out of it justify its positioning as the overall weekend main event.
