WWE SummerSlam Plans Revealed?

WWE SummerSlam 2018 will take place on Sunday, August 19 and Ringside News are speculating on a few matches that are rumored to take place at the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’.

As you’ve probably worked out by now, one of these potential encounters is Undertaker vs. John Cena in a rematch from WrestleMania 34.

The story running up to April’s ‘Show of Shows’ was a simple one. Cena didn’t have an opponent, he’d lost all his championship opportunities, so taking on the ‘Deadman’ was the only way he could conceivably be a part of the event.

The ‘Phenom’ did his utmost to convince everyone that he wasn’t actually going to turn up and the ‘Leader of the Cenation’ would have to spend the entire night in the stands as a fan.

Partway through ‘Mania, an onlooking Cena was informed that ‘Taker was indeed backstage and ready for a match. The 16-time WWE World Champion called out the ‘Demon of Death Valley’, and after the former laid out an interrupting Elias, Undertaker made his entrance and the match was set.

In what was a somewhat surprising turn of events, it took under three minutes for the once-undefeated-at-WrestleMania ‘Taker to lay waste to his foe.

Both men’s next performances were at the Greatest Royal Rumble event later in the same month. Cena defeated Triple H and Undertaker got the better of Rusev in a Casket match.

The former ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ hasn’t appeared in WWE since then, besides Total Bellas of course, whereas ‘Taker’ competed at this past Saturday’s WWE live event in Madison Square Garden. He teamed with Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman to defeat Elias, Constable Baron Corbin and Kevin Owens in a six-man tag team match.

The possible SummerSlam opponents are also both advertised for WWE Super Show-Down this October. Undertaker will take on Triple H for the “last time” at that event.

Despite both being WWE icons, Undertaker and Cena have only squared off one-on-one five times, with a 3-1-1 record in the ‘Deadman’s favor.

Ringside News also note the following as potential matches for WWE SummerSlam 2018:

  • Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns or Bobby Lashley – WWE Universal Championship
  • AJ Styles (c) vs. Samoa Joe – WWE Championship
  • Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Ronda Rousey – WWE Raw Women’s Championship
  • Daniel Bryan vs. Kane or Daniel Bryan vs. The Miz
  • Sasha Banks vs. Bayley
