WWE/TNA WRESTLING
A WWE SmackDown tag team has recalled canceled plans to wrestle The Hardy Boyz back in 2011.
Currently enjoying a successful stint back in TNA Wrestling, Matt and Jeff Hardy are dream opponents that are seemingly on the table for many current WWE tag teams due to the ongoing multi-year partnership between WWE and TNA.
While younger teams such as Fraxiom and No Quarter Catch Crew have had the opportunity to step into the ring with The Hardys – one veteran WWE team is still waiting their turn.
Motor City Machine Guns are a team synonymous with TNA, yet never got the chance to compete against Matt and Jeff during their shared time in the company in the early 2010s.
Speaking to Metro, Alex Shelley revealed that plans for a Motor City Machine Guns vs. Hardy Boyz dream match were in motion back in 2011 during a TNA UK tour, however, their scheduled match was scrapped.
Shelley recalled:
“It was scheduled once. Maybe 2011, there was a UK tour TNA had booked that match on in particular. And I can’t remember where it was gonna be. It was gonna be somewhere in England.
“And something happened, I can’t remember exactly what, but it never came to fruition. So we’ve somehow managed to evade the Hardy Boyz our entire career, and it’s probably time that we get that match.”
Motor City Machine Guns are currently seven months into their first-ever WWE run, debuting for the company back in October 2024.
Its unclear when The Hardy Boyz will be back on WWE TV, having last competed for the company at NXT Roadblock on March 11 where they successfully defending their TNA World Tag Team Championships against Fraxiom – titles they have since lost to Ryan & Nic Nemeth.
Following their brief time in NXT, Matt teased that he and Jeff have more stuff coming “later down the road” in WWE – for his full comments click here.
