A big tag team split in WWE could potentially be on its way after the team only just became tag team champions together.
On the May 29 episode of Raw this past Monday, there was a four-way match to determine the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions after the title was vacated due to Liv Morgan’s injury.
The four-way was won by Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler, so they’re finally champions after initially being planned to win them way back at WrestleMania, but they couldn’t due to Rousey being injured at the time.
It had previously been reported that WWE pretty much wanted to get the title on Rousey and Baszler as soon as possible because there’s a story planned to be told, but at some point, Rousey will be taking time off so they need to get it done before that.
In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Rousey and Baszler had pitched to become a tag team, but they’d also pitched that they’d have the “ability to work a heated program with each other”.
It wasn’t 100% confirmed that this is the plan right now, but if it’s something that Ronda Rousey has pushed for, chances are it’ll probably happen.
This is Rousey’s first time holding the tag team championship, while Baszler had already held it twice in the past with Nia Jax.
After winning the title, Rousey made some pretty damning comments about the state of the women’s tag division (seemingly a combination of in-character and real-life), which you can read about at this link.
