A WWE affiliated talent could potentially be undergoing a name change as WWE’s fingerprints continue to be added to AAA.

On WrestleMania weekend in April, WWE announced the acquisition of Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA.

Since then, WWE has held crossover shows like World Collide and TripleMania, and started building up its own crew to be in charge of operations.

Jeremy Borash, The Undertaker, Pete Dunne and NXT head referee Adrian Butler are said to have a big part to play backstage in AAA, along with the already-in-place Konnan.

AAA talent have also been signed to new contracts since the takeover which are essentially WWE contracts.

WWE management, namely Nick Khan and Triple H, have said multiple times that WWE isn’t looking to change AAA, just to refine it and help take it to the next level.

It appears one change that could be made soon is to the name of a current AAA champion.

At TripleMania 33, El Hijo De Dr Wagner Jr defeated El Mesias to win the AAA Latin American Championship.

El Hijo De Dr Wagner Jr translates to the son of Dr Wagner Jr – with Dr Wagner Jr of course being the son of the first Dr Wagner.

As reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there have been discussions about simplifying El Hijo De Dr Wagner Jr’s name.

The new name that’s been pitched and discussed is simply Dr Wagner III.

At present, WWE is still listing him as El Hijo De Dr Wagner Jr in the official website preview for his match at tonight’s Worlds Collide.

He defends the Latin American Title in a four-way against WWE stars JD McDonagh, Dragon Lee, and NXT North American Champion Ethan Page.
