Top WWE Target Loses Big Match After Contract Talks WWE

A top free agent who has had contract talks with WWE has lost a big match in NJPW, where he currently competes.

There has been a lot of speculation about Jeff Cobb’s future, following initial reports that WWE had shown interest in signing him.

This report- during which Cobb was referred to as a free agent – noted that one source indicated that Cobb had appeared on WWE’s internal roster, which Fightful couldn’t confirm.

Jeff Cobb fuelled uncertainty following this report by defeating former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Tetsuya Naito to advance to the quarterfinals of the New Japan Cup tournament.

Cobb’s time in the tournament has now come to an end, with Shota Umino defeating Cobb in their quarterfinal match on Saturday (March 15).

Amid speculation about what’s next for him, Cobb addressed his future following the match, noting in the post-match interview that he will compete through the remainder of the New Japan Cup tour, and will target whoever ultimately wins the tournament.

Interestingly using a phrase synonymous with WWE’s Roman Reigns, Cobb said:

“I’m gonna be a good boy and finish this tournament tour and whoever walks out the New Japan Cup champion, I will come knock, knock, knocking, and whoever it is I have to fight, you will acknowledge me.”

Jeff Cobb has reportedly had contract talks with WWE, but there was no confirmation of a deal at the time of that report.

We will continue to provide updates on Jeff Cobb’s status as they become available.
