A WWE star has teased potentially replacing Kevin Owens as Randy Orton’s opponent at WrestleMania 41.
During Friday’s SmackDown in Chicago (April 4) Kevin Owens announced that he is in need of neck surgery after dealing with issues since January.
As a result The Prizefighter confirmed that he would no longer be competing against Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41, a match that was announced for the event several weeks prior.
While SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis reacted to Owens’ news by stating that Orton would not be competing at the Grandest Stage of Them All, WWE NXT star Myles Borne has teased stepping up to the plate in Owens’ absence.
Taking to Twitter in response of a fan calling for the match between Orton and Borne to happen, the NXT star wrote:
I mean I’m pretty free that weekend
As Borne alluded to, he is not currently booked to compete at the NXT Stand & Deliver PLE, which takes place on the morning of Saturday, April 19, so on paper he would be available to fill the spot.
Given Borne’s lack of main roster experience it’s unlikely this will be WWE’s direction, however, given how often the No Quarter Catch Crew member has been compared to a young Orton it’s not difficult to see why some fans would be angling for the match.
We will provide further updates on WWE’s plans for Randy Orton at WrestleMania 41 as/when more information becomes available.
