The ‘Summer of Cena’ is officially in the rear view mirror. Cena fulfilled his last contractual obligation at last week’s (September 10) episode of SmackDown in Madison Square Garden.
During the Summer of Cena, Cena was advertised for numerous live events with the company, and the ticket sales for those shows had increased significantly due to his involvement.
However, Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that, now Cena is not advertised for the shows, ticket sales have decreased significantly. He said:
“If ever there was any argument about John Cena…I’m not saying throughout his entire career….but John Cena at this stage going to house shows and being a draw, boy did this year-end it because they were running around everywhere when he was working and they were selling tickets. And they were doing very well and now that he’s not there it has gone from great to so-so and maybe in some cases less than so-so. I mean bad, there are definitely bad ones now.”
Cena is far from done with WWE, and SmackDown star Finn Balor has teased himself and Cena settling their issues at WrestleMania.
