Impromptu Title Change Scrapped By WWE WWE

News has emerged of an impromptu WWE title change that was recently very close to happening, but ultimately it didn’t take place.

Things didn’t go plan during the main event of NXT Spring Breakin’ this past Tuesday.

During the match, when catching Tiffany Stratton diving to the outside, Indi Hartwell’s leg bent in a bad way and she suffered a legitimate injury.

Hartwell had to be taken to the back to see the medical team, with Stratton and Roxanne Perez continuing with what had basically now turned into a singles match.

Before the injury, the planned result of the match was Hartwell winning the three-way and retaining the title.

But with Hartwell seemingly ruled out, the planned finish changed, and the decision, according to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, was that Stratton would beat Perez and win the title, and obviously this was communicated from backstage to the ring through the referee.

However, it turned out Hartwell was able to make it back out to the ring, so when she did, the finish was reverted BACK to the initial plan of her retaining.

It was obvious to see there was some confusion regarding positioning in the closing moments of the match, as Stratton tried to pin Perez off her Prettiest Moonsault Ever finisher, but Hartwell pulled Stratton off the pin and pinned Perez herself – it seemed that Stratton wasn’t aware of that and had to hastily shuffle into the right position for Hartwell to pull her off.

WWE officials appear to be high on Stratton as some reportedly believed the commercials that aired during Raw starring Stratton were a big part of the TV ratings boost for Spring Breakin’ the following night.

There’s no real injury update on Hartwell yet, other than she posted on Instagram wearing a walking boot.

We wish her all the best with her recovery.
