Sami Zayn has addressed his title loss at SummerSlam, reflecting on his Intercontinental Championship reign.
Zayn had big shoes to fill as Intercontinental Champion, with the popular star ending GUNTHER’s record 666 day reign at WrestleMania 40 in April.
He ultimately held the Intercontinental Title for 118 days, with Bron Breakker defeating him for the gold at the August 3 SummerSlam event.
Zayn has now taken to Twitter to share a photo of him with the Intercontinental Title belt in one hand, and his son in the other.
Reflecting on his time as champion, Zayn wrote:
This Intercontinental Championship reign has come to an end.
It may have been the most special title run of my career… for personal reasons.
Bron Breakker’s Intercontinental Title win marked his first main roster championship victory, following previous reigns with the NXT and NXT Tag Team championships.
Several other championships changed hands at SummerSlam, with LA Knight defeating Logan Paul for the US Title, Nia Jax pinning Bayley for the Women’s Title, and GUNTHER becoming World Heavyweight Champion, ending Damian Priest’s reign.
