WWE Star Believes They Spent ‘Too Much Time On The Indies’ WWE

A WWE star believes they spent too much time on the independent scene prior to her first stint with the company.

Chelsea Green had a long road to WWE, officially signing with the company in 2018 after previous extra and Tough Enough appearances.

While this run with WWE ended in 2021, she ultimately returned in January 2023, and has established herself as one of the most vibrant characters in the WWE women’s division.

Speaking on the Lightweights Podcast with Joe Vulpis, Green said her four-year independent run prior to joining WWE made her reluctant to change up what she was doing during her first run.

Reflecting on how the indies shaped her mindset for her first run, and how this scene ironically fixed her mindset for her second run, Green said:

“I think I had spent too much time on the indies that by the time I got to NXT, I was going against the system.

“I was fighting against it… And I was so set in my way that I didn’t want anyone to change it and I was so entitled because I had been a world champion. So I was like, ‘Why do I need to change? You hired me. You knew what you were getting. Why do I need to change? You should just be putting these belts on me’ and I needed to be humbled.

“I needed to be fired and go back to the indies and rebrand and change my mindset, be humbled. Strip myself of that entitlement and just really realize that things will come when they’re meant to come and that’s what happened.”

Green was replaced by Alba Fyre in the Queen of the Ring first round fourway match on the June 13 SmackDown episode.
