WWE have filed a trademark application for two new terms, specifically covering ‘The Mog Squad’ and ‘Shido Ash’.

Applications for both terms were filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on April 10.

Under serial number 99756416, the application covers the term ‘The Mog Squad’, with the Goods and Services category reading:

IC 041: Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered live and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service;

providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information;

fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment.

A separate filing for ‘Shido Ash’ appears under serial number 99757257, with the same wording for the Goods and Services category.

Who Will Use New WWE Names?

WWE regularly file trademark applications, with star and show names being the most commonly seen in USPTO filings.

While a trademark application isn’t a cast-iron guarantee that fans will see a new star or faction with either term as a name, it is often a first visible step in that direction.

WWE continues to grow its roster through its various recruitment paths – WWE ID, WWE Next In Line, and the regular tryouts, Shido Ash appears to be the name of a new star.

WWE Performance Center trainee Shady Elnahas now has Shido Ash listed as his name on Instagram, which would be a fitting name for the two-time Judo Olympian, with ‘Shido’ notably being a light penalty in Judo. It also has a number of translations that suggest ambition or aspiration, which could be fitting for the future star.

As for The Mog Squad, while its WWE use is far from confirmed, the slang term ‘mog’ has its roots in the ‘AMOG’ (Alpha Male of the Group), suggesting an attractive, dominant collective of some description.

Curiously, NXT already has a faction that very much fits that description in the form of Vanity Project (Jackson Drake, Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes), who have recently allied themselves with Blake Monroe.

We will continue to provide updates on plans for these terms in WWE as they become available.
