WWE has filed two new trademarks for the names of two current tag teams that hold championships in the company.
At WrestleMania 40, the Raw and SmackDown Tag Team Championships were once again separated after almost two years, with Awesome Truth capturing the Raw Tag Team Championship, while A-Town Down Under captured the SmackDown Tag Team Championship.
Since then, the championships have been renamed and redesigned as the World Tag Team and WWE Tag Team Championship respectively, and it seems as though both teams could be around for a while as of yet.
WWE filed the trademarks for both AWESOME TRUTH and A-TOWN DOWN UNDER with the USPTO on May 31, with the following description accompanying the filings:
Entertainment services, namely, wrestling exhibitions and performances by a professional wrestler and entertainer rendered and through broadcast media including television and radio, and via the internet or commercial online service; providing wrestling news and information via a global computer network; providing information in the fields of sports and entertainment via an online community portal; providing a website in the field of sports entertainment information; fan club services, namely, organizing sporting events in the field of wrestling for wrestling fan club members; organizing social entertainment events for entertainment purposes for wrestling fan club members; providing online newsletters in the fields of sports entertainment; online journals, namely blogs, in the field of sports entertainment
Despite the new trademark filing, WWE seemingly teased a potential split between Austin Theory and Grayson Waller on last night’s SmackDown show.
