Report: WWE Name Nearly Fired By Triple H WWE

A report has emerged suggesting that WWE threatened to fire a Hall of Famer if they took an independent booking.

D-Von Dudley was all set to be in Bully Ray’s corner at Battleground Championship Wrestling’s Tribute To the Extreme show on December 17.

Although D-Von had been advertised since September, a last-minute decision had been made to pull him from the show.

He currently works for WWE as a producer and coach in NXT.

Dave Meltzer has now provided further details in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), stating:

“WWE did pull Devon Hughes (D-Von Dudley) from the event, both the live show and the convention.

“He was scheduled to be in the corner of Bubba Ray for his match with Matt Cardona.

“He went through John Cone in talent relations who reportedly approved of the booking and he believed based on his contract, since he’s not a wrestler, that he was able to do things like that.”

Although it looked like everything was set for the Dudley Boyz to reunite, the request was moved up the chain of command and this is where things went awry.

Meltzer explained that:

“Bruce Prichard nixed the booking and it ended up on the desk of Paul Levesque.

“Hughes has said he was going to do it because he gave his word on it and Levesque didn’t give approval and he was basically told if he did it, he’d be fired, so he didn’t do it.

“There was no real reason past the claim that they didn’t want him in a physical risk, but I’m not sure how much physical risk there is in pulling out a table since he was not scheduled for any physicality himself.”

Since the event, BCW’s Timothy Embler has addressed the situation on Facebook stating that:

“After having several conversations today I now know that everything that went down with D-Von was a misunderstanding.

“The WWE did not intentionally pull D-Von to hurt our show.”

A Tribute To the Extreme took place at the home of ECW, 2300 Arena in Philadelphia.

Wrestling Observer reported that the event had sold out two weeks in advance of the show.
