When discussing his excitement about the tournament Ranallo said:
“I am enthralled, I am over the moon, I have been a fan of the British wrestling scene. Growing up, my favorite wrestlers for a long period of time were ‘The British Bulldog’ Davey Boy Smith and The Dynamite Kid, seeing them in Stampede Wrestling and WWE; whilst also being exposed to the likes of Chris Adams, William Regal, Dave Taylor and Fit Finley. […] I’ve had a long affinity for the British wrestling scene and look at where we are now. The 2017 match of the year was for the WWE UK Championship between Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate. [To be] Working with Nigel McGuinness and being at [the] Royal Albert Hall, having had so many incredible memories throughout my career: the Pride fighting championship tournament, the Strikeforce heavyweight tournament, the Bellator heavyweight tournament, the Cruiserweight Classic and now the United Kingdom Tournament at the Royal Albert Hall. All I can say is cheerio, and away we go, mamma mia! I’m coming.”
The UK Tournament is shaping up to be an exciting show. The fact that Ranallo will be announcing alongside McGuinness at the show will only make it better. Ranallo recently had to pull out of commentating on NXT Takeover: Chicago II due to a scheduling conflict, with Showtime Boxing’s Triple Header event also taking place Saturday.
Ranallo has been replaced by Vic Joseph at this Saturday’s Takeover event.
McGuinness made his WWE announcing debut at last years UK Championship Tournament, having previously worked as color commentator for Ring of Honor from 2011-2016 following his pro wrestling retirement. Since then he has gone on to commentate on WWE shows like 205 Live, Main Event and NXT.
The tournament will be filmed at the Royal Albert Hall on June 18th & 19th and air on the WWE Network June 25th & 26th.
