Money in the Bank may be just over a month away on June 17. Directly after, however, on June 18 and 19, the second WWE UK Tournament will commence at the Royal Albert Hall in London… or will it?
According to a statement released by WWE.com, we will be getting the opening round of the tournament much earlier than expected at Download Festival. The annual rock music event occurs in Donington Park, Derby, UK and falls on June 8-10 this year.
The statement reads:
“In addition to featuring the Superstars of NXT live and in action, the annual rock festival — which takes place June 8-10 at Donington Park in Derby, U.K. — will host WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament first-round matches for the opportunity to compete at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
“Featuring 16 competitors, the tournament will continue at Royal Albert Hall on Monday, June 18. The winner of the tournament will then receive a title match against WWE U.K. Champion Pete Dunne the following day.
“Stay tuned to WWE.com, as the field of competitors in the WWE United Kingdom Championship Tournament will be revealed this Wednesday and Friday.”
We previously reported on the superstars of NXT featuring at the festival but now it seems to be even more of a must-see event. Currently, the only superstar confirmed for the tournament is 205 Live mainstay Jack Gallagher.
Other names that were revealed to appear throughout the event (whether or not they are in the actual tournament themselves) via audience reports at a recent WWE Live show in the UK include Wolfgang, Mark Andrews, Tucker Knight and Toni Storm.

As it stands, Day One of the Royal Albert Hall shows will include the tournament to a conclusive winner as well as the six-man tag team match of British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) vs. the Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong). Day Two will then present a title match for every NXT Championship, likely culminating in the WWE United Kingdom Championship bout between current champion Pete Dunne and the winner of the tournament.
As mentioned in WWE‘s statement, the rest of the competitors in the upcoming tournament will be revealed on Wednesday and Friday this week so stay tuned for more updates here on WrestleTalk.com.
