Report: WWE Wants NXT Star To Main Event WrestleMania WWE

Following an unexpected character change on WWE NXT, it’s being reported that a promising star is being positioned for a WrestleMania push.

On the April 11 episode of NXT, Von Wagner lost a match to Ilja Dragunov, and the stipulation of that match was that if Wagner lost, Mr Stone would walk away from being his manager.

April 18, however, saw a shift in presentation for the heel character, with Von Wagner begging Robert Stone to not leave him.

In the backstage segment, Wagner would refer to his heritage in wrestling, saying his father was a Beverly Brother.

As previously noted, Wagner, real name Cal Bloom, is the son of Wayne Bloom, who wrestled as Beau Beverly of the Beverly Brothers tag team alongside Mike Enos, known as Blake Beverly.

Wayne Bloom wrestled for WWE between 1991 and 1993 and had runs in AWA and WCW.

Dave Meltzer has now provided further insight into the plans for Wagner on Wrestling Observer Radio, revealing:

“He’s tall, he’s got blond hair, they want him to main event WrestleMania, but you need charisma to get to that level.”

The character shift may be a chance for Wagner to show his charismatic side, because, to this point, he’s only been presented as a quiet monster heel and hasn’t had the chance to show that.

WWE’s high hopes for Wagner date back to his debut two years ago, with him even being labeled by some at the time as the next Edge.
