WWE.com has released the following in regards to the return of NXT TakeOver: WarGames.
“NXT TakeOver: WarGames returns this November when the black-and-yellow brand comes to the STAPLES Center on the eve of Survivor Series on Saturday, Nov. 17.
“Tickets for the huge WWE Network special event, which marks the first NXT TakeOver on the West Coast, will be available starting this Friday, July 20, at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT, at nxttickets.com.
“The NXT Universe witnessed the monumental return of the first WarGames Match in nearly 20 years last November. Initially made famous as one of the premier match types in the NWA and, later, WCW, WarGames is a battleground unlike any other, pitting teams against each other inside two rings surrounded by a steel cage.
“Last year’s match, fought among Undisputed ERA, Authors of Pain & Roderick Strong and SAnitY, set a new standard for brutality and gave Undisputed ERA bragging right after they picked up the historic win.
“Don’t miss out on your chance to watch the action of TakeOver: WarGames live and in person this November when NXT comes to The City of Angels. Head to nxttickets.com this Friday to secure your seat!”
The return of the critically acclaimed pay-per-view is huge for the black and yellow brand as it brings with it the makings of annually specialized events for the developmental roster. Many of the main roster pay-per-views already follow this structure with events like Royal Rumble, Money In The Bank, and even the one that follows NXT‘s marquee show, Survivor Series, all revolving around their namesakes.
Rumors have circled since WarGames first returned that it would not be a one-off event. Now, however, we finally have confirmation that it will go ahead in the same spot as last year. If this will make way for any other match specific pay-per-views in NXT‘s future is yet to be seen but it is certainly a start.
The most intriguing aspect of this news is who will actually participate in the match itself. Last year’s winners, Undisputed Era, are still roaming the brand with gold to spare and, providing none of them are called up beforehand, could make for strong return contenders.
With SAnitY and the Authors of Pain both now on the main roster, however, some new factions will be needed. Before the announcement of NXT UK, British Strong Style would have been the obvious choice. Perhaps, with it still being under the NXT banner, the Brits could return to compete.
That still leaves room for one more team and, honestly, your guess is as good as mine. Could we simply see an unlikely team up like we did when the Authors of Pain joined forces with now UE member Roderick Strong? Or will a brand new faction arise between now and then? Whatever the case may be, NXT TakeOver: WarGames is returning and it’s going to be one hell of a show.
