WWE Women’s Star Set For Championship Picture Push

According to Twitter account @SliceWrestlingWWE officials are said to be positioning Raw star Ruby Riott into the brand’s Women’s Championship picture in the near future.

The former NXT standout’s upcoming push is the result of her hard work within the company. Riott has not been booked well since debuting alongside her self-titled squad. This is arguably due to being brought up too soon purely to fill out the Women’s Royal Rumble match in January and thus having little storyline prepared for the rest of her introductory main roster run.

Despite a lack of real direction, however, Riott has seemingly managed to impress those backstage. Her in-ring work is more than solid and she has clear skill with a microphone in hand. The gothic character is also unique within the women’s division now that Paige has sadly retired.

More will likely become clear after this Sunday’s Money In The Bank pay-per-view where current Raw Women’s Champion Nia Jax will defend against Ronda Rousey. In her current state, Riott is an unlikely threat to either. Beginning to protect her now, however, will make the ‘Punk Rock Princess’ a much more credible challenger down the line.

This news also coincides with WWE releasing a new installment in their Formerly Known As YouTube series focusing on Riott. Other subjects of the series include former Women’s Champions Alexa Bliss and Bayley, one half of the current SmackDown Tag Team Champions Harper, and Grand Slam Champion Seth Rollins. With that lineup, it is clear to see that Riott’s stock is on the rise.

What are your thoughts on Ruby Riott potentially holding the WWE Raw Women’s Championship? Is she simply being built up to make future successful title defenses seem more impressive?
