A new report has revealed that a major planned WWE WrestleMania 39 match may have been scrapped.
As previously reported, WWE is currently discussing plans for their upcoming WrestleMania 39 event in April 2023.
Besides dealing with the possibility of The Rock headlining the show, the company is now making changes to a previously planned bout.
Wrestlingnews.co reported that plans for a match between SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch have been scrapped.
While plans for Lynch at Mania have not been confirmed, the report notes that WWE is now planning to have Rousey defend her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Rhea Ripley.
There is no word on how the promotion will get to this showdown, but it does note that barring injury, this is unlikely to change.
The following matches are currently listed in the report for WrestleMania 39:
WWE Championship
Seth Rollins vs. Cody Rhodes or Drew McIntyre
WWE Universal Championship
Roman Reigns vs. The Rock or Cody Rhodes
Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship
The Usos vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens
WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
Ronda Rousey vs. Rhea Ripley
