A match set for WWE WrestleMania 41 has officially been canceled due to an injury to one of the participants.
A few matches were added to the card for Mania tonight, but there was one that was removed as well.
Throughout today (April 4), reports had emerged from online sources indicating that the announced Randy Orton vs Kevin Owens match for WrestleMania was in jeopardy due to an injury to Owens.
On tonight’s SmackDown, Owens made that official as he stated he’d been dealing with neck issues for four months and needed neck surgery.
As Owens left the ring, his planned Mania opponent, Orton, came out to the ring and passed a departing Owens without incident.
When Orton got in the ring, he was greeted by WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, who informed Orton he no longer has a match at WrestleMania.
Orton then simply RKO’d Aldis in the ring and didn’t comment any further, so there’s not currently an official update on whether he’ll be in a match against someone else instead of Owens.
