The backstage reaction to recent news that WWE WrestleMania 42 would no longer be taking place in New Orleans has been revealed.
In February 2025, it was announced that the 2026 iteration of WrestleMania would be taking place in New Orleans, only for those plans to have been scrapped as of May 22.
Fightful Select has now provided insight into the backstage announcement of the change of location for WrestleMania 42.
According to Fightful sources, many WWE stars, employees and staff were “shocked” by the news that WrestleMania would no longer be in New Orleans.
It was also noted that an unnamed source had been shocked that WrestleMania 41 was announced “late”, being confirmed in May 2024.
The report went on to note that, with WrestleMania 42 not being officially announced at the time of writing, it will be one of the later announcements in the key WWE PLE’s history.
While some talent may have been “shocked”, it was also noted that there were those who were “unfazed” about news of the change, noting that WWE handles that the logistics of plans for its stars and that side of things would be handled regardless of the shift with some not even looking ahead to next year’s PLE.
The report states that the current regime in WWE is much more likely to wait to announce shows and open to changes if a significant revenue benefit can be generated.
Outside of WWE, Fightful reports that there’s been an element of immediate frustration in the wrestling industry itself.
Wrestlecon, in particular, had already signed a venue contract for their convention in New Orleans which was set to take place around WrestleMania 42.
With multiple independent wrestling shows likely to have taken place in New Orleans to coincide with WrestleMania week, Fightful commented that it would be normal practice for companies to negotiate with venues almost a full year before those dates.
It has since been reported that WrestleMania 42 may be taking place in Las Vegas, the location for its 2025 edition.
The shift of location may also be accompanied by a change in date from the original April 11 & 12 to later in that month.
At the time of writing, there has been no confirmation as to the location or date for WWE WrestleMania 42.
