Je’Von Evans Wants To Break Brock Lesnar & Randy Orton WWE Championship Records After WrestleMania 42

Je’Von Evans has a vision where he breaks multiple long-standing WWE championship records, starting with WrestleMania 42.

Taking place on April 19, Night Two of WrestleMania 42 will see Je’Von Evans compete in a six-man ladder match, alongside Dragon Lee, JD McDonagh, Rey Mysterio and Rusev, all of whom will be seeking to dethrone Penta as WWE Intercontinental Champion.

A win for Evans would see the 21-year-old star become the youngest WWE Intercontinental Champion, something he sees as the start of a quest.

Speaking on Ringer Wrestling, Evans sees his WrestleMania 42 match as the start of a journey that will see him claim more age-based records, saying:

“For sure. I feel like personally, when it comes to business and my career, I take that maybe a little too serious.

“Because I love having fun of course but I got stuff I want to do, I got goals I want to accomplish.

So I knew from the get go, once I learned that I was able to break an Intercontinental Championship record, I was like, ‘Oh, like I literally have enough time.’

“Then of course the Randy Orton record, then the Brock Lesnar record, he won the WWE Championship at 25. I have time to build and learn about myself and break more than one.”

At the time of writing, Jeff Hardy is the youngest WWE Intercontinental Champion, having been just 23 years old when he won the title for the first time in April 2001.

Back in 2004, at that year’s SummerSlam, Randy Orton became the youngest WWE World Heavyweight Champion at 24 years old, while Brock Lesnar was just a year older when he defeated The Rock to become WWE Champion in 2002.

The Age Old Problem Of… Age

This year’s WrestleMania 42 continues the tradition of being a two night WWE Premium Live Event, serving up a main event to cap off each show.

Night One will see Cody Rhodes defend the Undisputed WWE Championship against Randy Orton, with career-defining involvement from Pat McAfee. Night Two gives fans Roman Reigns facing World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk on April 19. All four men are over 40 years of age, with Rhodes and Reigns being at the younger end of that decade.

The presence of newer stars is a subject that the former Baron Corbin has considered previously, calling upon WWE to consider fresher names for WrestleMania that we’ve seen in the past, particularly in the context of plans shifting due to injury.

While “newer” doesn’t necessarily mean “younger”, there are parallels to be drawn, particularly considering WWE has a plethora of stars, such as Evans, many of whom are no doubt ready to take that next big step, not necessarily towards to a WrestleMania moment, but onto the main roster.

WrestleMania is an intriguing time for WWE fans, with the likelihood that the post-PLE period could see call-ups from NXT, many of whom are likely to be stars yet to hit their prime when it comes to their age.

WWE, as with many other large companies, relies on established stars for name value, but with the likes of AJ Styles and John Cena recently having retired, and Roman Reigns continuing to dominate as a part-time talent, there are big boots to be filled.

Whatever happens at WrestleMania 42, the future is bright for Evans and all the younger stars who will, one day, find themselves in the positions currently occupied by the old guard.
