WWE Champion Wants Match Against Absent Star At WrestleMania 41 WWE

WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion Lyra Valkyria has named her dream opponent for WrestleMania 41 in April 2025.

Valkyria was called up from NXT in the 2024 WWE Draft and would claim her first main roster gold on January 13, 2025, defeating Dakota Kai in the tournament to crown the inaugural Women’s Intercontinental Champion.

The February 17 episode of WWE Raw saw Dakota Kai defeat Ivy Nile to become the number one contender for the Women’s International Championship, though recent comments by Valkyria show she’s looking further ahead.

With WrestleMania 41 taking place on April 19 & 20, 2025, Valkyria has named Asuka as her dream opponent in an interview with Pubity, saying:

“A match that got away from me would be to face Asuka. That would be pretty massive.

“When I was first debuting on Monday Night Raw, I’ll never forget watching Backlash in France and that’s when I discovered what my debut match would be, which was supposed to be Asuka.

“Unfortunately she got hurt and I ended up wrestling Dakota Kai, which ended up being quite poetic in itself as we circled back to me and Dakota in a big history making moment.

“But yeah, that would definitely be a nice match to circle back to, to get to wrestle Asuka.”

The May 4, 2024, WWE Backlash saw Asuka and Kairi Sane lose the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill.

After the match, it was reported that Asuka had suffered a knee injury that has seen her still out of action at the time of writing.

Asuka has been factored into WWE creative discussions recently, although no specifics emerged as to a potential return date.

Recently, Meko Satomura revealed that she had wanted another match with Valkyria before her retirement.
